Resourcify CEO Interview : Gary Lewis

Tell us about you, Gary
Originally from New Zealand, I love nature and all things green. My path in the tech sector began early, building computers to fund my engineering studies. After graduating, I moved to Europe with a clear ambition: to build a green tech company, enabling sustainable growth.
How did you decide to create Resourcify?
Following my engineering studies, I joined Maersk. Traveling to more than 60 countries exposed me to the incredible scale of global supply chains and the immense opportunity within waste and material management. At its heart, a plentiful supply of lost materials (waste) and an insatiable demand for materials. I co-founded Resourcify with Felix to solve this problem, connecting waste streams with material demands.
How did you meet with Felix?
Felix and I met in Hamburg. He originally applied for our first Business Development position, but during our initial discussions, it became clear that his strategic vision and commercial expertise perfectly complemented my technical and operational background. Bringing him on as a co-founder was a natural step toward building a great leadership team.
How is Resourcify solving the climate challenge?
There are two things required to reach Net Zero by 2050, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Energy Transition and Circular Economy. Energy transition is not enough, we would reach just over half of the targets. Circular economy, the process of saving materials being extracted from the environment and the huge energy requirements of doing so, can deliver 45% of the required GHG savings.
Said in a different way half of the climate solution is Circular Economy: Re-using, Recycling, and Re-manufacturing. This is what Resourcify is solving, the Circularity Platform to make circularity easy, fast and accessible for companies.
What is your view on the circular economy today?
Huge Unrealized Potential. We are still in the early days but we are at an inflexion point: we are seeing rapid acceleration across multiple sectors as industries recognize the immense value of optimized resource loops for climate, cost competitiveness and resilience. Resourcify is uniquely positioned as a leading ecosystem orchestrator, capturing substantial early market share and defining the software category for enterprise materials management.
What has changed over the last few years?
Circular Economy has gone from theoretical concept to a proven reality. The current phase is about executing at scale across more and more value chains. Resourcify as well has grown and become a scale-up. It is exciting to be growing together with, and in many ways also defining, the Circular Economy.
Describe Resourcify in 5 years
Resourcify aims to become the Reverse Amazon. The enabling layer behind Worldwide Product Recovery, Waste Optimization and Circularity Reporting. We’ll be able to offer customers one source of truth, one global solution to run, manage and scale circular solutions around the planet.
What do you expect from an investor?
Money, experience & guidance. All three are very important. To compete globally, European companies must have access to enough capital, from investors who understand how to support companies to scale quickly and focus on most important and urgent problems.
How do you see the relationship with SlateVC?
Slate has all three ingredients to be a fantastic investor, and I would recommend anyone who is looking for capital to reach out to SlateVC and team to get to know them. They are a very unique mix of industry, investor and operator experts. Great combo. I look forward to working with them for many years into the future.
What is your wildest dream?
A world without waste, in our lifetime. Wouldn’t it be incredible if everything that was produced could be re-used, recycled or re-manufactured? And that our planet would not have to suffer from an endless cycle of extraction but could recover?
